Welcome Bel Air Parents, Students, Staff and Visitors!
My name is Clint M. Mitchell. I was born in the Caribbean Island of St. Lucia. I migrated to the United States on November 12, 1989. Upon arriving in the United States, I attended Samuel J. Tilden High School in Brooklyn, New York. While at Tilden, I was a recipient of former mayor David Dinkins summer scholarship to attend a prestigious private school-Choate Rosemary Hall in Hartford, Connecticut.
After graduating from Samuel J. Tilden High school, I attended Brooklyn College, City University of New York (CUNY). I graduated from Brooklyn College with a Bachelors degree in Political Science and Philosophy in 1998. I earned a Master of Arts in Urban Policy and Public Administration in 2001 at the Brooklyn College graduate center. I earned a second Master of Education in Education Leadership at George Mason University in 2004.
I began my career in public education as a History teacher in the New York City public school system. In 2001, I moved to Prince William County, Virginia. Upon arriving in Prince William, I accepted a Civics and Economics teaching position at Mills E. Godwin Middle School. I left Godwin Middle School to become an Administrative Assistant at Bel Air Elementary in January, 2004. I was appointed by the School Board as an Assistant Principal at Bel Air Elementary on June 30, 2004. On May 17, 2006, I was appointed as principal at Bel Air Elementary School.
One of my basic principles is to start our school year with a theme and purpose. In 2006-2007, our theme was "Charting the Course for Excellence." In 2007-2008, our theme was "Breaking Down Walls... Building Bridges." In 2008-2009, our theme was "Moving Forward... Full Steam Ahead." The theme for this current school year is "You Are the Key to our Success."
During my tenure as principal at Bel Air Elementary, some of the instructional programs and expectations we have implemented are: Professional Learning Communities, Four Square Writing, SRA training and services for all qualified students, Word Study, Effective School Wide Discipline, Guided Reading and Balance Literacy focus across all grade levels, Flexible Grouping, DRA 2 training and assessment tool for students and staff, Daily 5 and School Wide Title 1 program.
I am very honored and proud to be the principal of this great community. On behalf of the entire staff and faculty at Bel Air Elementary, I am looking forward to your parental support as we continue with our theme "You Are the Key to our Success."
