NOTE TO OUR BEL AIR FAMILIES

The beginning of the 09-10 school year has been truly exciting for our staff, students and families here at Bel Air Elementary.  It is evident that everyone has been working collaboratively in getting this year off to a great start as we continue to build academic excellence in our students!

Our School Wide Title One program continues to be a great success for our students.  Under this program, the Bel Air staff is able to service all students under the Title One program.  Our ESOL, Special Ed, Title One Math and Title One Reading specialists and teacher assistants collaboratively work with the classroom teachers to meet the needs of all of our learners in an inclusive practice setting.

Our PTA and Advisory council continues to meet on a monthly basis.  We encourage all of our Bel Air families to join our PTA and welcome all of our families to participate in both our PTA and Advisory Council meetings.  For more information on how our families can participate, please contact us.  Our Parents as Partners in Education, (PEP) has begun as well.  This organization is a fantastic way for families that may be new to our country to become aware of how our school works and how to become a well informed advocate for their child’s success. 

 As our second quarter begins, I would like to encourage our families to continue to find ways to assist your child in learning.  A great way to start is finding the time to have your child read for a minimum of 20 minutes each.  Every student participates in our word study program.  Students use word sorts to not only learn how to spell the words but understand specific vowel and consonant patterns each word contains. All students K-5 participates in our Math Investigations program as well.  Students are able to learn math conceptually through hands on games.  Part of the Math Investigations program has students work to explain their mathematical reasoning at home and at school.  If you have any questions or concerns about the program, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.
